Automatic Analysis Scheme for Multiple Images of Ongoing Electrophoresis Gel

We propose an automatic analysis scheme for ongoing electrophoresis gel images provided by an integrated device of the electrophoresis and the gel documentation devices. Whereas the existing schemes analyze a single gel image obtained after completing the electrophoresis operation, the proposed scheme analyzes multiple gel images obtained through continuity photographing during the electrophoresis operation and selects the best analysis result rapidly. The proposed scheme immediately analyzes the gel image whenever the ongoing electrophoresis gel is photographed, and compares the analysis results of the recent and the preceding gel images. In the first time point when the analysis result of the recent gel image is worse than that of the preceding gel image, the analysis result of the preceding gel image is selected as the final analysis result. When comparing the analysis results of gel images, the number of extracted bands and the size of pixels in the extracted bands are used. In practical experiments of electrophoresis gel analysis, the proposed scheme provides about 19.3% large number of extracted bands and about 29.6% larger size of pixels about 31% faster than the existing scheme.
