Can the quenching of axial coupling in nuclei be attributed to excess gluons

It is suggested that enhancement of the gluon distribution in nuclei relative to free nucleons might be responsible for quenching of the axial vector couplings in nuclei. Using the Carlitz-Kaur model for quark spin distributions, the consequences of gluonic enhancement are explored numerically for a range of nuclei.
