In this paper the profile of Johann Adam Kulmus (1689 - 1745), a physician and anatomist coming from Gdansk, was presented. His anatomical handbook "Tabulae Anatomicae" (written before 1722) was presented, too. This work was translated into a number of languages, like Dutch language (1741). That version was sent to a Dutch Colony in Nagasaki, where in 1771 got into hands of Sugita Genpaku, a physician (1733 - 1817). He and his friends translated the book of Kulmus into Japanese ("Kaitai Shinsho", 1774). In this article the influence of the reception of that work on Japanese science and culture in the second half of 18th century was discussed.
