Medium Access Control Protocols for Broadband GEO Satellite Network

The MAC protocol for broadband GEO satellite network is designed, thus to upgrade the utilization of system resource while ensure the QoS(Quality of Service). This paper outlines the feature of broadband GEO satellite network, summarizes the main factors that affect the performance of medium access control protocol, and focuses on analysis of the two medium access control protocols based on hybrid self-adaptive assignment scheme and terminal bandwidth requests scheme. The results show that the best way for improving the network performance is to combine the efficient terminal bandwidth request strategy with the proper resource assignment scheme. Finally, some suggestions on further research are proposed.
