Heat distribution and thermal calculations for switched reluctance motors

The heat distribution in a prototype multi-tooth per stator pole switched reluctance motor, called the two-tooth or 12/10, is predicted. Calculations are carried out in two-dimensions (xy plane) and only the airgap conduction is assumed in the third dimension (z-axis). Conduction between the shaft of the motor and the body of machine is also taken into account. Calculations are done for the both natural and forced cooling and the calculated results are then compared with the experimentally obtained values for the forced cooling.
