Prior Knowledge-Based Reading Instruction of Informational Texts

For most EFL students,comprehension of informational texts is a special challenge. This thesissets out to discuss the nature of reading and the characteristics of informational texts,and then identifiesprior knowledge deficiency as a major cause for failure to comprehend informational texts. As a means of ad-dressing this issue,a prior knowledge- based approach is proposed to help students activate,form andstrengthen their prior knowledge.
