COMPARISON OF AASHTO MOISTURE SENSITIVITY TEST (T-283) WITH CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION MODIFIED TEST METHOD

Several different interpretations of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials' (AASHTO's) Moisture Sensitivity Test exist. The official AASHTO interpretation of this test method does not account for water which has been absorbed into the test specimen while determining the specific gravity for the specimen. The modified Connecticut Department of Transportation method accounts for all of the water which the specimen has absorbed. Because of this difference in the calculation of the percent saturation, the test results for each method are quite different. This report looks at the differences in test results obtained using the two different test methods.
