The 4C Machine

The 4C machine is the most recent of a series of sound processors developed by or associated with the IRCAM staff, notably one Pepino DiGiugno, and built by Alain Chauveau. It is but one of a series of machines, the design of which has been evolving continuously for quite a few years now. It follows most recently the 4B machine which was developed at IRCAM jointly by Alles and DiGiugno (1977). Among the goals of this design project was the desire to alleviate some of the difficulties of the previous machines, and especially the limitations imposed by the 4B machine, some of which were already mentioned by Rolnick (1978), notably:
