Photovoltaic system in telecommunications building using AC modules

From the view point of conserving the environment, NTT group is promoting the introduction of photovoltaic (PV) systems. The PV systems introduced in a telecommunications building in Yokohama, Japan in April 1999, consists not only of normal PV modules, but also AC modules, the vertically mounted-type PV modules, and the transparent-type PV modules. In particular, shadows were expected on the PV arrays from a nearby exhaust stack, so we introduced AC modules in the shadow region to increase the generated power of PV modules. This paper describes the configuration of the PV systems and simulation of the increased power obtained by using AC modules.
