SYSTEM OF AUTOMATIC INPUT OF GRAPHIC INFORMATION INTO COMPUTERS AND AUTOMATIC READERS (EXPERIENCE IN DEVELOPMENT AND OPERATION)

Abstract : A block diagram of the device is presented. The white level is stabilized in the automatic reader by autocompensation of the uneven signal from the white background of the sheet along a line. The time required for reading one character is not over 5 msec, which is equivalent to a rate of 200 characters per second for a sheet with densely printed text. The mechanical portion of the device provides for feeding, transporting and removal of blanks from a packet of 50-70 sheets stored in the loading casette of the machine. The transfer device for information input from the automatic reader to the computer is made of standard units of the 'Ural-4' computer and is in the form of a separate unit. After preliminary preparation data input is controlled directly from the control panel of the reader. (Author)
