Incorporating fractional backordering in the multi-product manufacturing situation with shelf-lives

Abstract In previous research, shortages have been included in the multi-product manufacturing situation with shelf-lives. The assumption that all the shortages would be completely backordered is relaxed in the present work. A fraction of shortage quantity is not backordered and the analysis is extended using the common cycle time approach. Shelf-life and manufacturing capacity constraints are imposed. A simple numerical example is provided to illustrate the mathematical formulation.
