USING SCOOT WEIGHTINGS TO BENEFIT STRATEGIC ROUTES

SCOOT is a fully-adaptive, traffic-responsive Urban Traffic Control (UTC) system. It minimizes the vehicle stops and delay in an urban road network controlled by traffic signals. Vehicle detectors on all the approaches to controlled junctions feed information to the SCOOT computer to enable it to model all the traffic in the network. The SCOOT optimisers then optimize the signal timings to minimize network delay and stops. The study described in this paper is designed to give guidance to traffic engineers on the best method of using the SCOOT weightings to favor particular routes through a network.
