A grid-based interactive visualisation of medical images

The paper addresses the development and use of Grid middleware and the use of distributed resources for interactive visualisation of simulated data within a dedicated problemsolving environment. We developed an agent-oriented architecture, the Interactive Simulation System Conductor (ISS), for the design of interactive experiments. The Vascular Radiology Explorer is a case study for these experiments. A considerable part of this paper is devoted to the architecture, functionality and simulation-visualisation techniques that have been used. The paper also introduces the concept of a Grid Visualisation Kernel and its core functionality for Grid visualisation services, which is integrated in order to facilitate visualisation on the Grid.
