Conversion of an investment casting sprue wax to a pattern wax by the modification of its properties

In this study, physical properties of a commercial investment casting sprue wax (B97) have been improved by the addition of some additives so that it can be used as a pattern wax. For this purpose, some chemicals and soybeans of different varieties, which their positive effects on the properties of B97 had been observed in our previous studies, have been used in combination. Two or more of these chemicals and soybean flours have been added to the wax composition and it has been shown that surface roughness, solidification shrinkage, apparent viscosity, hardness, tensile strength and wettability properties of a sprue wax can be improved by these additives to such an extent that it has properties superior to those of a commercial investment casting pattern wax (B140).
