In situ scanning tunneling microscopy study of adsorption of diaza-15-crown-5 on Cu(1 1 1)

Abstract Adsorption of diaza-15-crown-5 (1,4,10-Trioxa-7,13-diazacyclopentadecane: C 10 H 22 N 2 O 3 ) on Cu(1 1 1) in aqueous HClO 4 solution has been investigated using cyclic voltammetry and in situ electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Diaza-15-crown-5 molecules form a well-ordered adlayer. A Cu(1 1 1)-(4×4) structure for the molecular array is determined. A proposed model is used to explain the molecular registry with the substrate.
