Music in the home: Interfaces for music appliances

The development of networked information appliances, combined with the proliferation of broadband Internet access and e-commerce, has the potential to greatly affect media consumption in the home. In this paper we consider the influence of these developments on a common domestic activity, finding and listening to music. After summarising the relative strengths and weaknesses of accessing music in physical and digital formats, we present a design concept which is intended to combine the advantages of the old and new media. In particular, we focus on the problem of visual information seeking within the context of music and touchable screen displays.
