Collecting the Data

You will collect two kinds of data during your research. First, the historical data collected from background reading, access to written records, audio disks, video and computer sources, letters, drawings and so on. Second, the first-hand data that you generate during the research process, interview information, questionnaire returns and so on. This chapter is mainly concerned with the historical data that you will gather before you start to produce your own first-hand data.
