The Operational Ers-1 Sar Processing System At The German Paf

This paper describes the concepts and the layout of the operational Multisensor S A R Processin System (MSAR) of the German Processing and Archiving Fachty (D-PAF) for ERS-1. MSAR is a comprehensive and complete new software system with functions for HDDT screening, transcription, precision processing and archiving of SAR data. It is supporting many services required by the user community with respect to man different SAR product types in short turn around times inc ldng report generation for quality and archival purposes. All products are archived for long-term storage on archival optical disk. It is a heterogeneous software and hardware system written in Ada, C and FORTRAN. The software for monitoring and control, screening and transcri tion has been designed using an objectoriented method (HOBD). In the development many teams have been involved including support from industry. The hardware consists of SUN and DEC com uters with several array-processors, workstations, different higf density digital tape recorders, frame synchronisers and other special electronics.
