A networked control system for industrial applications

Abstract This article presents the concept of a newly developed control system for industrial machines. It has been applied to a plasma cutting machine and future extensions are planned for laser cutting and electron-beam welding machine. Special emphasis was set on cost reduction, while not compromising performance and reliability. The system utilizes hard real-time open-source projects and builds upon a networked architecture.
