Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks (WSANs) utilize considerably more proficient actor nodes that can assemble data and actions which are particular to applications. Maximal actor exposure along with inter-actor network is required so that these actions can be taken collaboratively at any spot in the monitored areas. There was growing interest in usage of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in past few years for the applications such as defense sector, security related and sensitive applications and failure management. Such applications are expected to have sensors that will be distantly deployed in large numbers and will operate separately in unattended environments. Disjoint and usually non overlapping clustering is done by grouping the nodes which support scalability. In this paper, we present a classification and categorization of clustering schemes which have been published to year. Survey of various clustering algorithms for WSNs is done and their objectives, complexity and features have been discussed. The comparison of these clustering algorithms is done on the basis of metrics.
