Research and Implementation for Automatic Extraction of Preparation Line on Triangulated Surfaces of Preparation Tooth

Dental CAD/CAM offers the prospects of drastically reducing the time to provide service to patients.Automatic extraction of tooth preparation line is one of the important parts of dental CAD/CAM.This paper presented an method for extracting the tooth preparation line from digital dental measurements.First step,discrete curvature analysis on triangle meshes was done to obtain approximation curvature values.Feature regions distinguished themselves by defining curvature threshold.Second step,the key feature points were searched by the probability method of computing dynamic guiding line,radius of the search sphere and centroid modified.Third step,the key feature points were fitted to preparation line.Some examples were tested in this work,the results demonstrated that the proposed algorithm is effective and feasible.
