It assesses their responses to an increasingly competitive and commercially orientated market as Governments throughout the world either deregulate or privatise the transport sector. The structure and ownership of the transport market is discussed first. This is followed by an explanation of the "systems concept" as it applies to transport sector. A section is then provided which gives information about the various international and national regulatory bodies and their functions. The role of National, local, and European government upon transport provision is then discussed. The influence of user organizations and trade associations upon transport policy and provision is then investigated. The effect of issues such as environmental protection and congestion prevention upon transport are also discussed.
