SOME MODE CHOICE MODELS FOR PANEL DATA

The data for this study was collected before and after the opening of the Flevoline, a new train line connecting Almere and Lelystad with Amsterdam. The mode choice data relate to some 900 commuters between Almere/Lelystad and Amsterdam. A descriptive evaluation study was carried out and it was decided to do additional analysis by means of mode choice models to provide more insight into elasticities and dynamics of mode choice behaviour. A number of static models were estimated on the before or after mode choice data and dynamic models were estimated on the combination of before and after data. Elasticities were derived from these models. The paper describes the original situation and the subsequent changes, the data collection for the original descriptive evaluation and for the model estimation. For both the static and the dynamic mode choice models the theoretical background is established and the results are described as well as the derived travel time elasticities. Finally conclusions are drawn about the use of static and dynamic models, short and long term elasticities, etc. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 860299.
