The appropriate estimation of the excavationㆍequipment is a major factor when trying to satisfy a project's cost and time requirements. But the expert decision of equipment estimation is often based on the heuristic methods or trial and error in Korea. Thus, this study proposes a prototype model to select estimation fleets of the loaders and trucks in the excavation work using genetic algorithms. The estimated number of equipment allows the minimum cost of excavation work taking account for time-cost trade-off. By utilizing this prototype model the efficiency of the excavation work will be improved.
