Analysis on Harmonics Losses of Main Transformer of AC Drive Locomotive

In heavy using of the high-power electronic power elements,the main transformer of the AC drive locomotive runs in the harmonics environment.The simulated main transformer model is established with Software ANSOFT as the platform.Copper losses and steel core losses in harmonics conditions are calculated.The formula of eddy losses of steel core stalloy is deduced by the calculous theory.And the eddy characteristics are analyzed.The results show that the copper losses and steel core losses are increased due to the existence of harmonics,and harmonic current losses are larger than losses of equivalent power currents.The analysis provides valuable reference to transformer design optimization.
