Taxonomy, origin, distribution and host range of Aphidius species (Hym., Aphidiidae) in relation to biological control of the pea aphid in Europe and North America

The parasite spectrum (Aphidius spp.) of Acyrthosiphon pisum is analysed and discussed with respect to its peculiarities in Europe and North America. The species are reviewed, specific criteria analysed and keys to identification added. Host range, relative abundance and interspecific relations are checked with respect to the existing opinions and author's own records. Recommendations for the release of some parasite species in Europe are given.
