Climate and Health

Climate change and associated extreme weather events, such as Hurricane Mitch, can have profound public health and economic consequences. Epstein discusses in his Perspective how climate change and severe weather events are making a large impact on emerging infectious diseases. He examines how data on changes in climate can be used to better forecast disease outbreaks ( Linthicum et al.), allowing time for preventative action such as vaccination of livestock.
