THE JET NEUTRAL BEAM LINE, COMPONENT DESIGN FEATURES AND ASSEMBLY

The JET Neutral Injection Beam Line design is based on the requirement to supply 5 MW of full energy 80 keV H° for pulse lengths exceeding 5 secs. Later operation will involve upgrading the system to 160 keV for deuterium. In addition to the physics requirements, other major design parameters include maintenance and replacement capability by remote handling methods, compatibility with ultra high vacuum conditions, low magnetic permeability of the structural materials, and a tight space envelope allocated in the neutral injection vacuum tank.
