Rough Riding: Aboriginal Participation in Rodeos and Travelling Shows to the 1950s

Literary evidence is used to investigate the participation of Aboriginal men in travelling shows and rodeos till the 1950s. It is revealed that Aborigines, used to a life of cattle farming, competed on equal terms with white riders in the shows, displaying spirit and a sense of identity amid the prevalent legislative and cultural oppression.
