Development of the Long Caisson Type Vertical Breakwater

The width of the caisson of a breakwater is calculated based mainly on the wave force expected to act on the caisson. IN this calculation, the assumed wave force is the peak wave force acting on the whole of the caisson simultaneously. However, in reality, the wave force acting on the caisson is less than the peak value because the wave force acting on the caisson is less than the peak value because the wave force acts on the caisson with a phase value because the wave force acts on the caisson with a phase difference if the wave's angle of incidence is other then 0. Therefore, we developed a long caisson type vertical breakwater in which caisson length was increased from the usual length of about 20 meters to 100 meters, the resultant reduction of wave force was taken into account, and caisson width was reduced.
