Operation and design evaluation of main coolant pumps for PWR and BWR service. Final report

The long term viability of commercial nuclear power is strongly dependent upon the economics of plant equipment reliability. Primary coolant pumps (PCP) for PWR systems and primary recirculating pumps (PRP) for BWR systems are critical components where reliability improvements would provide a significant increase in overall plant availability. This study identifies the major causes of forced outages resulting from PCP and PRP operating problems.
