Proposed Victorian roller compacted concrete pavement trial

In September 1988, a roller compacted concrete (RCC) road pavement is to be constructed for a 1 km duplication of Wells Road, Aspendale. This is the first RCC pavement to be constructed in Victoria for over 30 years. As such it is a trial of the suitability of RCC for future Victorian roads. This paper outlines the geometric and thickness design of the trial and the specifications adopted. Methods have been developed to make specimens of RCC for laboratory strength and workability testing. Limited data is presented on the influence of cement content, water content and density on strength and workability. A joint RCA/ ARRB monitoring project to evaluate the performance of the pavement is also described (A).
