Research on Electrostatic Discharge Characteristics in Composite Airplane

In order to analyze the Electrostatic Discharge(ESD)characteristics in composite airplane,theory of ESD generated in composite airplane is first presented in this paper,then the model of ESD in composite airplane is established according to ESD current pulse form to simulate the electrostatic accumulation in carbon fiber composite airplane and to emulate the fields E radiated by ESD current.Finally numerical results by the FEM method are given to calculate the capacitance of composite airplane,and to estimate the energy of ESD.Dramatically different from general metal airplane,it should be emphasized that the impacts of electrostatic discharge and its radiation fields on the airborne antenna in this paper are all totally in the composite material environment of the aircraft throughout the analysis.
