Buckling Loads for Bridge Piles

The buckling loads of bridge piles and the corresponding equivalent lengths were calculated by using Rayleigh Ritz method. The interaction of the soil and the pile, that is,the normal pressure of the soil on the pile and the skin friction along the pile were taken into account together with the weight of itself.Four kinds of coefficients of subgrade reactions and two kinds of modes of the distributions of the skin friction were discussed. The numerical results obtained from the present method were compared well with the experimental results reported in the literature.A parametric study was undertaken to highlight the effects of subgrade reaction, subgrade friction, weight and geometric dimension of piles,on the buckling loads.
