Update of NASA's Icing Training Aids for Pilots

To support NASA's goal to improve aviation safety, the Icing Branch at the NA SA Glenn Research Center produces training aids for pilots and operators regarding the hazards of in -flight and, now, ground icing conditions. NASA partners with regulatory agencies and pilot organiz ations to create relevant and practical materials that a re focused toward the intended pilot audience. Through the development of these products, a number of new instructional design approaches and media delivery methods have been introduced to enhance the learning experience, expand user interactivity and part icipation, and increase learner retention rates. The goal of using these multimedia techniques is to increase the effectiveness of the training materials. This paper describes the genesis of NASA's entry into icing training aids, gives a brief description of our products, estimates the impact of these products, and mentions future plans.
