Rinderpest in game : a description of an outbreak and an attempt at limiting its spread by means of a bush fence

WITH the present day methods o£ immunization against rinderpest, by the use o£ attenuated goat virus or £ormolised spleen vaccine, or a combination o£ both, cattle can be satisfactorily protected: and were they the only susceptible animals concerned, complete eradication in a comparatively short time might be anticipated by the intensive use o£ these inoculation methods together with strict police control. U n£ortunately in Africa there is a widespread and varied game population, in many places in intimate contact with domestic stock. Many o£ these species are susceptible to rinderpest in varying degrees and are, therefore, capable o£ acting as transmitting agents between different groups o£ cattle and game. .
