REPRESENTATION OF LANDSLIDES IN ENGINEERING GEOLOGICAL MAPS

AN EXTENSIVE ENGINEERING-GEOLOGICAL MAPPING PROGRAM IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA HAS RESULTED IN THE SYSTEMATIC REGISTRATION OF ALL LARGE LANDSLIDE AREAS; THE SLOPE STABILITY DATA ARE STORED ON COMPUTER. THE REPRESENTATION OF LANDSLIDE FEATURES ON ENGINEERING- GEOLOGICAL MAPS IS ILLUSTRATED BY SEVERAL MAPS RANGING IN SCALE FROM 1:250 TO 1:1,000,000. SOME OF THE FEATURES DEPICTED ON ENGINEERING-GEOLOGICAL MAPS ARE ACTIVE AND FOSSIL LANDSLIDES, TENSION, SHEAR, AND PRESSURE JOINTS ON ACTIVE LANDSLIDES, HYDROLOGICAL DATA, LITHOLOGY, SURFICAL DEPOSITS, VEGETATION COVER, AND MAN-MADE STRUCTURES. ALSO, SOME METHODS OF LANDSLIDE MAPPING ARE BRIEFLY DISCUSSED. THE VARIOUS TYPES OF LANDSLIDE MAPS HAVE ALREADY DEMONSTRATED THEIR USEFULNESS IN SLOPE STABILIZATION, CITY PLANNING, AND REGIONAL PLANNING.
