SUBSYNCHRONOUSRESONANCEZONES INTHEIEEE'BENCHMARK"POWERSYSTEM

Studies ofsubsynchronous resonance(SSR)phenomena are conducted ina powersystem composed ofaturbo-generator setconnected to an infinite busviaseries capacitor-compensated transmission lines. The analysis isapplied toa "benchmark"modelproposed bythespecial IEEEPowerEngineering Society TaskForceon Subsynchronous Resonance. Complete detailed representation oftheelectromechanical system hasconfirmed theexistence of(n-1) modes, wheren isthenumberof lumped massesoftheshaft, aswell astheexistence ofsuper-andsubsynchronous components intheelectrical network. Theeigenvalue method ofanalysis isusedtostudy theinteraction between mechanical andelectrical network dynamic behaviors undersmallperturbations, andtoidentify thevarious conditions inwhichthesystem wouldbe subjected totorsional interaction, induction generator effect, andhunting.
