Propagation Mechanism of Cyber Physical Security Risks in Power Systems

In a cyber-physical power system, cyber space risks can result in the failure of a power system. Thus, it is necessary to study the propagation mechanism of cyber physical security risks. In this paper, the basic propagation path of cyber physical security risks in a cyber-physical power system is first analyzed. Then, a risk propagation model of the cyber physical security is proposed based on the cellular automata and the characteristics of a cyber-physical power system. Finally, numerical simulations are carried out based on a 9-bus system in MATPOWER. Through these simulations, some important impact factors on the propagation of cyber physical security risks are discussed, such as the transfer probability and recovery rate. The impacts of the simulation time interval on simulation results are discussed as well.
