NEURAL NETWORK APPROACHES TO PREDICTING ATTENUATOR PROFILES FOR RADIATION THERAPY

This paper reports on initial investigations into the use of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) for predicting compensator profiles for intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) treatment. The second section describes the algorithm used for generating training data for the ANNs and the two methods by which compensator dimensions are represented. Section three presents the two ANN architectures investigated. Results show that both architectures can achieve a high degree of accuracy and that error is limited only by the time available for training.
