A Two-Dimensional Non-Linear Shell Model of Koiter’s Type

A two-dimensional non-linear shell model, based on a priori assumptions of geometrical and mechanical nature, has been proposed by W.T. Koiter [8]. However, the ‘exact’ change of curvature tensor appearing in this model possesses a denominator that may vanish for some displacements.
