Sewing Thread Consumption in Lockstitch Sewing Process

Sewing thread is one of the complementary materials that are consumed more in clothing production. To reasonably calculate the consumption of sewing thread is both helpful to accounting the clothing cost and improving the management,as well as controlling the clothing quality. A lockstitch sewing test with 1.01 joint was performed on seven kinds of cloth with different thickness. The thread consumptions were compared and the factors affecting the consumption were analyzed. The conclusions are as following: given the same cloth, stitch density is inversely proportional to thread consumption;given thin thread, the consumption of surface thread is almost less than 1.5 times as much as the sewing thread, while more than 1.5 times for thick thread;under the same condition, the consumption of thick thread is more than that of thin thread, and the warp-wise thread consumption is higher than width-wise.The warp-wise thread consumption of the thick thread is 1.47 times as much as that of the thin thread, while its width-wise consumption is 1.32 times as much as the thin one.
