The Australian Industrial Psychologist Revisited

Abstract A questionnaire, based on the work of Bordow (1971), was constructed to assess the current role of the Australian industrial psychologist. The questionnaire was sent to psychologists registered with the Occupational Division of the Australian Psychological Society and sought information concerning their educational background, employment history and current job functions. Results showed that there has been little change in their role over the past 10 years. They were still found to be primarily concerned with recruitment and selection, psychological testing, personnel counselling and training. The only notable Changes were an increase in the number of psychologists holding a higher degree, an increased probability that psychologists would remain in consulting work, and a decreased probability that they would remain in academic work.
