Deriving Photosynthetically Active Radiation using GOES Visible Band Data

We developed a new algorithm to retrieve incident PAR at 1 km resolution using Geostationary Operation Environmental Satellite (GOES) visible band data. This algorithm draws on multi-temporal observations to simultaneously retrieve surface reflectance and atmospheric parameters. Topography correction is also included in the algorithm to account for the impact of rugged terrains. Validation against ground measurement indicated the algorithm's effectiveness.
