Implementation of genetic optimisation technique in small-scale industries

The turning centre is so versatile that they find wide applications in all the manufacturing industries. Hence, it is desired to optimise the operating parameters of the turning process. Data collected from two different industries for two different components are used for optimising. Single optimisation procedure by genetic algorithm has been developed in this work which is applied for turning process. In this paper, we prove that an average of around 17.78% reduction in machining time is possible by applying genetic algorithm. Further, the same procedure can be applied to other production processes such as milling, grinding, welding and electrical discharge machining.
