Lexeme-morpheme base morphology

Lexeme–Morpheme Based Morphology is a theory of morphology which crucially distinguishes between full lexical items (lexemes) and functional items (morphemes). Morphemes include functional items such as articles and prepositions as well as affixes. Further, LMBM has as a central tenet the Separation Hypothesis – the proposal that derivation (e.g. The process of nominalization) and affixation (e. g. the addition of a form such as -ation or -ment) are distinct processes, the latter being termed morphological spelling or realization.
