Performance of CDMA Cellular Networks with Base-Station Antenna Arrays

The rapid increase in demand for mobile telephones has resulted in shortfall of capacity in many urban areas. This is despite the recent improvement in network capacity resulting from use of digital transmission technology. Antenna arrays at the base station can further increase system capacity. In this paper we present a detailed model for uplink performance with base station antenna arrays. In particular, we study outage probability as a function of system loading in the presence of multipath.
