Asynchronous Sequential Systems

The discussion in the previous chapter has introduced, in general terms, the concepts involved in both synchronous and asynchronous sequential systems. It has also been shown that many simple systems of this nature can be designed from a purely intuitive point of view. For more complex systems having a larger number of possible operating sequences, the capability of the intuitive approach rapidly becomes exhausted. It is therefore necessary to formulate, as unambiguously as possible, the several steps involved first in analysis and second in design. It is the purpose of this chapter to establish these procedures in respect of asynchronous systems.
