III Recognition, Treatment and Prevention of Hearing Impairment in Children

It is taught in text books and believed by otologists and neurologists alike, that "impaired hearing for high tones with good hearing for low tones" is evidence of an inner ear lesion. Some examples of this type of deafness are shown in Figs. 2 to 7. We have accumulated abundant evidence in the Otological Laboratory of the Johns Hopkins Hospital that this type of hearing impairment may also be due to a middle ear lesion, which can be cured if recognized early.
