Uretero‐intestinal anastomosis in low‐pressure reservoirs: refluxing or antirefluxing?

cuff techniques [3,4], Le Duc sulcus [5] and the valve-related problems of the Kock [6] procedure are frequently quoted to support this argument. The reported incidence of upper tract dilatation after constructing a hemi-Kock pouch is 3–5.3% (Table 1) [7–10]. This is an acceptable rate and can be explained because in this procedure the ureters are anastomosed to the inlet valve by a widely spatulated mucosa-to-mucosa anastomosis. Nevertheless, the reported number of valve-related complications was high. Dessusception, valve stenosis and stone formation over metallic staples are all reported [6–9]. As a result, this approach was largely abandoned in favour of a direct anastomotic technique [3] or a different antirefluxing procedure [11,12].
